In The News

Friday, September 21st, 2007

The most awaited day of the week for me personally is here and not a moment too soon. Remember that In The News is part of a balanced diet.

  1. Did you read about the donkey in a well? It seems that a donkey strayed from its farm in Underwood, Minnesota and onto some boards covering a well and falling down after they broke. Firefighters had to dismantle the well brick by brick and once it had been taken apart a harness was put around the donkey and guided it out to safety. Warren Gundberg who owns the donkey said to it, “I bet you’ll think twice about doing that again. If you would have stayed home you wouldn’t be in this trouble.” Didn’t we see that donkey in some movie?.
  2. Did you read about the 756th home run ball? It seems that the record breaking 756th home run ball has been sold at an auction. The ball sold for $627,056 and a 20% commission of $125,411 was tacked on to the final price of $752,467 dollars. The winner’s name has not been released yet. For the record, it wasn’t me.
  3. Did you read about the mystery illness in Peru? It seems that after a meteorite crashed into southern Peru last Saturday it made villagers sick. Villagers complained of headaches and vomiting brought on by a “strange odor”. The meteorite left a 100-foot-wide and 20-foot-deep crater. “Residents are very concerned,” said local official Marco Limache.

The first investment report of the month is here, in reality this should be the second one but somehow I forgot to write the first one so this post becomes the first one, makes sense right?. Slowly but surely all that money that was lost when the market went south is being recouped. One thing that I am absolutely waiting for is when the $1000 dollar mark is reached, very exciting for me. Wednesday Video

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

I am still haunted by those tunnels in yesterday’s post, kidding. The good thing about today is that it’s Wednesday and that means a little something I like to call Wednesday Video. Last week’s video was “Good Hearted Man” by Tift Merritt, I liked this video the first time I saw it and went and got the CD as soon as I could. That is one of those videos you can’t help but like in my opinion, one of my all time favorites. That brings us to today’s video, I am pretty sure you are going to like it but if you don’t remember to let me know.

The Tunnels, Part 1

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

If you remember on the September 6th I wrote a post about some underground tunnels I heard about, you can read about it here. I borrowed a camera and headed to the tunnels to check them out for myself since none of my friends accepted my invitation. This was mostly a scouting mission to identify places of interest in order to make it easier the second time around. Since I already knew where the entrance was I headed that way. I took my trusty flashlight, camera and my cell phone of course. Click on the pictures to make them bigger.

Tunnel 1

As you can see from the picture above, this part of the tunnel is round. You can see pipes of different sizes used for electricity and high speed networks I would say. The creepiness factor was high and I am sure if you are claustrophobic you wouldn’t like it down there.

Tunnel 2

From the second picture you can see how the tunnel has changed, it is no longer round. You can see plenty of pipes and cables in this picture. Some sections of the tunnels are hot while others are quite the opposite. There is plenty of noise from all the machinery and once in a while you hear something that makes you stop and wonder just what it was. Unfortunately the camera’s memory card was full after only 2 pictures. Being the positive guy that I am I know I am going back with an empty memory card, that is for sure. Stay tuned.

What A Short Weekend

Monday, September 17th, 2007

This weekend was slow. I know it’s time to get back to work, I wish it was a four day weekend but it’s not. One good thing about the weekend was that it wasn’t that hot, it was nice and that is the way I like it.

Saturday I got up late, took a shower and relaxed. I watched the game between the Chicago Fire and the New York Red Bulls, a good game. The final score was a 2-2 tie. To end the day I watched ‘Dawn Of The Dead’. I liked this movie when it first came out and obviously I still do. And just like that Saturday was over.

Sunday I got up early and decided to do some laundry and take it easy the rest of the day. I watched the game between Chivas USA and the Colorado Rapids. After some delays due to thunder the game ended in a 1-1 tie. My team that four time champion DC United is the best in the league with a 15-6-4 record and 49 points. I then watched some TV and waited for a call from a friend, we were going to go out but the call never came so I decided to make the best of what was left of my weekend. I watched some more TV and then went to bed. Not a bad Sunday. A note, I just realized that I forgot about the first Investing 101 report of this month. I just don’t know how that happened, this I know I am not forgetting about the next one.
